09/13/2003 - New anime manga I'm reading   Right now, I'm reading back and forth between four anime manga series...

Love Hina - I'm stuck right now at volume 13, waiting for volume 14 to be released. Keitaro and Naru's relationship is getting more serious. Naru's now thinking about "doing it".

Great Teacher Onizuka - I just finished volume 4, will be buying volume 5 on Saturday. I first started with GTO by watching the motion picture, starring Norika Fujiwara. This is a very good series to get into... It's pretty much a complete opposite of Kinpachi Sensei.

His and Her Circumstances - A very mushy romance theme... I just finished volume 1 and am currently reading volume 2. If you like true romance, I highly recommend this series. (cover shown)

Onegai Teacher - I watched the DVD series, and I loved it. I bought volume 1 of the manga, and I'll soon hit it once I complete Love Hina.

09/07/2003 - Kiyoshi Hikawa in Hawaii  Each year, Hawaii celebrates Aloha Week via a series of events during the week. The week always starts with a parade that runs through Waikiki. The remainder of the week is filled with many things, including Hawaiian music events, arts & craft shows, and much more.

The special guest of honor for 2003 is Kiyoshi Hikawa, the number one Enka/Japanese POP singer in Japan. Enka is considered, by foreigners like myself, the old-style of singing. Kiyoshi kicks the style up a notch by adding a more POP sound, which attracts a much younger audience. I have only one of his CDs, Kiyoshi no zundokobushi. My favorite track from that CD is number 6, Hakonehachiri no hanjirou. I just bought the karaoke track for that song off of CD Japan, and will try to show off my enka skills with it at various karaoke venues I invade.

Anyway, Kiyoshi is holding a concert, complete with his orchestra from Japan. September 14 7:00pm at the Sheraton Waikiki ballroom. I have my ticket!!!!! Can't wait to go!!! It will be the first Japanese-only concert I will attend.

09/06/2003 - Noriko Sakai releases new CD moments  Well, Noriko Box satisfied me for awhile... Her two singles releases in 2000 were alright for awhile... But still, it wasn't enough for me!!! It has been over five years since her last original full-CD release Work Out Fine. Today, her new CD, titled moments, officially releases in Japan. I've had this CD on pre-order for the last month or so, and I'm dying here of anticipation!!!!!!

Tracks on the CD include Morning Glory, Beach's Widow, September, Naturally, and No End Summer. However, what's torturing me with curiosity is one particular track titled Hawaiian Wedding Song. Everyone who follows Noriko know that she frequently comes to Hawaii to do such activities as body surfing and such (and rumor has it that her husband lives in Hawaii), so that song can mean several things. I'll dig around for more info, and will post as I find them.

While we're on the subject of Noriko Sakai... Masakura Katsura is the creator of Video Girl Ai, and is a total Noriko Sakai fanatic. In a past interview of his, he mentioned that the character Moemi Hayakawa, was created based on Noriko's image. You can tell... Her hair and facial features are almost identical to Noriko's early 1990's look, where she still had the long curled black hair. BTW, you've got to read the VGA manga in full!!!! Volumes 14 and 15 include Video Girl Len. The English-translated version is floating around the Internet in JPEG form.

08/22/2003 - BoA Atlantis Princess  I purchased her album recently. It's the very first K-POP (Korean POP music) album I've ever purchased. I'm not into dance music by any means... This particular release received a number of rave reviews, so I went along with everyone else and bought it. It's awesome! The bonus track The Lights of Seoul is by far the best song I've heard in a very long time, in any language! Very inspirational! I wish American artists would write songs like this nowadays. I hope the following lyrics brightens your day...

Morning sunlight in your eyes brings life to everything, waking the earth with love and tenderness within. Feel the blooming of the trees vivid in the clear blue sky, so blue that it will take your heart and breath away.

And why the smallest whisper in your ears give happiness? Because I know that tomorrow is full of love for us all...

Chorus

Hi Seoul- chase the shining dreams ahead. The days to come are full of hope for everyone. The shining sun will light up your path 'till the end. Like birds we'll take the flight of pure joy for days to come... Hi Seoul.

Silent starlight in the sky gives me hope and warmth inside, filling my heart with love and happiness within. Sweet memories of friendship of us linger in my heart, so sweet that it will take your heart and breath away.

And why the smallest whisper from the streets talk happiness? Because all the joy n' passion is all out there for us all...

*** Repeat chorus two times

08/13/2003 - Yoko Ishida "sweets"  I bought this CD this past Monday, along with my monthly fix of Newtype Magazine (a very popular Japanese anime magazine). What made me buy this CD is that it includes Eternal Flower (TOWA NO HANA) the opening theme song for Ai Yori Aoshi. However, besides that track, there are two other songs I'm crazy about...

I Can't Tell You (IENAIKARA) is the ending theme song for the anime series YUCIE. It's a very beautiful ballad, which includes acoustic guitar in the beginning, then accompanied by a string quartet, along with some modern electronic drums and bass. The melody sounds somewhat like a song you'd expect to come out of a Walt Disney movie.

Truth's Door is the other track I just love. The melody reminds me of songs by Carole King. The sound is quite American. and Thankful is just as beautiful a song.

Yoko has a very soft and pleasant voice, and at time hit the really high notes. She really reminds me of a very young Noriko Sakai, but with the songs being more on a mature level. I highly recommend this album for any Japanese anime fan, or any Japanese music lovers who are getting sick of the latest fast-paced POP sounds.
