- Apple II j-plus model posted in the Museum For my English-reading
visitors, I have posted some photos and information about the Apple II j-plus.
Very recently, it was auctioned on Yahoo Japan at around 50,000 yen or roughly
$450 US. Access the page
via this link. And
the Apple Macintosh people thought their Macintosh model was the first
Japanese-marked Apple computer... Nope!

04/25/2003 - New Japanese Anime
for The Mac Geek I just purchased the 3-DVD set of Ai Yori Aoshi.
Supposedly, it's comparable to other series like Techi and Love Hina (you may
remember I'm a huge Love Hina fan). I'll be watching the series over the
weekend, so look out for my review in the near distant future.
BTW... If you have any other
recommendations for Japanese anime DVDs I should watch,
please e-mail me. I'm mostly interested
in romantic comedies. Series I've already seen (and are in my taste range)
include Video Girl Ai, Love Hina, Sakura Diaries, and Hand Maid May. I don't
have any friends that are into this sort of stuff, so it's hard for me to find
the ones that I'd be interested in. |

- Rights to Richie Rich Purchased by FOX Broadcasting LOS ANGELES
(The Hollywood Reporter) --- After striking gold with "Joe Millionaire," Fox
Broadcasting Co. has its eye on a handsome young billionaire: Richie Rich.
Fox has struck a deal with Susanne Daniels' First Move Entertainment, Warner
Bros. Television and New York-based Classic Media, the last of which holds the
rights to the enduring Harvey Comics character. The latest incarnation of the
poor little rich boy, who first appeared in
comic-book form in 1953, will find Richie Rich as a teenager living in
present-day New York.
Writer Chris Kelly, whose credits include the Fox sitcom "Grounded for Life,"
has been tapped to write the pilot script.
"We see him as kind a JFK Jr. type living it up in New York," said Daniels, who
was the driving force in acquiring the TV rights to the character from Classic
Media. "There's a sense of empowerment about him for kids -- he always got away
with a lot because of his money, but he was really always generous and good to
his friends."
This is Daniels' second go-round with Richie Rich. When she was entertainment
president at the WB Network, Daniels developed a project that focused on the
character as a college student, but the show never got off the ground.
Richie Rich also was the subject of a 1994 live-action feature starring Macaulay
Culkin (news). --By Nellie Andreeva |

- A 4.22MB RAID on Mac OS X This is one of the great things about
running Mac OS X... This person who goes under the name "ohlssonvox"
created an array, made up of
five USB floppy disk drives. He basically connected the drives to a USB hub,
then used the software RAID feature of Mac OS X to create a 4.22MB array. Did he
stop there? Noooooooo! He took four SONY Memory Stick readers and created an
array. If you need 127MB of storage space, I really don't recommend getting the
space using a Memory Stick array, but then again... Well... I dunno!!!! it just
adds another dimension to that old cliche "Because I can." |
03/29/2003 - CDRW and DVD
Production presentation is now available
Finally,
a new workshop has
been posted to The Mac Geek's Teachings section. This particular workshop
was given earlier today at the HMAUS SpringFest 2003, and yours truly was the
presenter. I received quite a number of praises from the attendees, so I think
it's worth taking a gander. Basically, the data on-line contains 30 or so slides
I created. You will need Apple
QuickTime installed in order to view the presentation.

03/24/2003 - Latest updates on The
Mac Geek Well, nothing fantastic going on, really... I try to
post something at least once a week, even if I have nothing to post.
Note to Tiger Woods: Teach
your model girlfriend how to cook CLEAN food. And do not eat food made by
someone who spent the previous night in a hospital for food poisoning.
With Operation Iraqi Freedom in full
swing this past Thursday, my eyes have been glued to the various 24-hour news
stations. It's amazing how high-tech the media coverage is, in comparison to the
war at Vietnam. You have to admit though that the competition between CNN and
FOX News has much to do with the coverage. My mom, for example, noticed that CNN
was covering the downed helicopter in Kuwait for at least 30 minutes. And,
during the same period, FOX didn't make one mention of it. Finally, after about
30 minutes, FOX made a very brief statement about the incident, but in the same
report explained that they had to wait until the Pentagon approved the
information before airing. So it seems to me that CNN is taking a gamble of
releasing information even before receiving approval. All in all, the
competition between the two networks just produces more content on the TV
overall to fill over three days of coverage without commercials.
This past week, and during this
next coming week, I'll be finishing up my DVD-R/CDRW presentation preparation
for this coming Saturday's SpringFest, sponsored by HMAUS. I'll be giving a
1-hour presentation on various concentrations of storing data onto removable
media, in particular CDRW and DVD-R, both of which Apple Computer's SuperDrive
is capable of handling. What I'm still trying to figure out is exactly what's
the future for the DVD-R format, since it seems that many of the PC/Windows
types put more emphasis on DVD+R. There's actually a difference in the media
between -R and +R, though technically the format of the data between the two are
the same. In other words, if I burn data from my Macintosh to DVD-R, and I walk
over to my Windows XP Pro machine and try to read it with my 3-year old DVD-ROM
drive, it won't read it. So this past week, I found a great deal on the Sony
DDU1621-DO model DVD-ROM drive. ComputerGeeks.com is selling this drive for
$39.00 plus shipping. My neighborhood computer store wanted $80.00!!!!! I was
able to get the same exact drive from ComputerGeeks, with FedEx shipping to
Hawaii, for under $60.00. So it really depends on how badly you want the drive
which outlet you would choose to shop at.
